Surrounding Area: The historic medieval market town of Aubusson, traditionally famous for it’s early production of tapestries is ideally located halfway between the two big cathedral cities of Limoges and Clermont Ferrand both with international airports and good rail links. A short drive away from the A20 motorway, this quaint town, with it’s amazing architecture has all that you may need, good restaurants providing excellent cuisine, bakeries, shops, banks, supermarkets and an indoor swimming pool. Visit the museum, rose gardens or ruins of the old castle. The old clock tower high above the town is well worth the climb just to admire the views. This is an ideal base to discover the delights of the surrounding area with it’s wonderful woodland walks, amazing scenery and quaint little hamlets. The local lakes and rivers especially Lake Vassiviere (35 miles in circumference) a short drive away, provides excellent fishing opportunities, beautiful clean sandy beaches with swimming areas, sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, a fantastic restaurant and pleasure boat trips. Try out the pony trekking at the local stables or canoeing on the river. For the energetic, during Winter months, the ski slopes of Mont Dore are only a 50 minute drive away. Visit the weekly farmers’ market and stock up on local fresh produce or the antique street fairs held in Summer months. Either holidaying or house hunting this is the perfect location to suit all tastes.
