The property: The cottage was built in stone in the late 1800s in a style typical of the Limousin region and has traditional wooden shutters and French windows. It is detached and has a cellar and three floors including the “grenier” which we have converted into a guest suite. Ground floor: The ground floor comprises a kitchen-dining room and a sitting room. The kitchen has a beamed ceiling and tiled floor with French doors opening onto the courtyard garden. It is fully fitted with all modern appliances including dishwasher, refrigerator, eye level oven, microwave, and gas hob. It is furnished with an art nouveau mirrored buffet, bistro table and chairs and satellite TV. An automatic washing machine, additional refrigerator and the water heater are housed in the cellar. Sitting room. The sitting room has a window looking onto the courtyard garden and French doors onto the lane, a beamed ceiling, oak parquet floor and an original Limousin fireplace complete with modern wood burning stove. There is a comprehensive selection of books and a stereo radio/CD player. Wicker furniture, armchairs, a large oriental rug and floor to ceiling curtains give this room a warm rustic charm. First floor: A quaint wooden staircase leads from the kitchen to the first floor. There is a walk through landing and bedroom which has a single bed which could be used as an additional guest bed if required. A modern shower room with hand washbasin and toilet has been installed and there is pine parquet flooring throughout. A large French armoire houses a good supply of bedlinen and towels. The spacious master bedroom is delightfully furnished with cream and gilt French style furniture, lavender walls and pretty coordinating curtains. There is UK satellite TV in the bedroom. Grenier: A made to measure staircase built by local craftsmen leads up from the first floor to the grenier which has been converted into a spacious family suite accommodating a double and one single bed. It has exposed beams, a laminate pine floating parquet floor and velux windows with spectacular views over the countryside. There is a small cloakroom with hand washbasin and toilet. |

Outside Area: The cottage has a pretty walled courtyard garden accessed via a wrought iron gate from the road. It is a real suntrap and a delight for eating “al fresco”. A small stone outbuilding houses tools and a garden table and chairs. In hot weather a weeping birch tree provides shade. There is a washing line for laundry. |

Surrounding Area: The Limousin region of central France is a beautiful, picturesque and peaceful area comprising the three “départements” of Haute Vienne, Creuse and Corrèze. The famous Limousin cattle are bred here and the capital of the region, the historic city of Limoges is world renowned for its fine porcelain and a visit to the museum of porcelain is not to be missed. In Aubusson to the south of the Creuse, priceless tapestries and carpets are still woven today as they have been for centuries and it is possible to watch the weavers at work. Sparsely populated and dotted with quaint farming hamlets and villages, the lovely Limousin countryside is a variety of upland pastures, forests, hills, rivers and lakes and offers the opportunity to enjoy a quality of life which is becoming increasingly rare and difficult to find in this day and age - an escape from the stresses and strains from the modern world. It is an ideal destination for ramblers, riders, anglers, golfers, birdwatchers, rock climbers and water sports fans. For the less energetic, there is the pleasure of soaking up the beauty of the glorious scenery, visiting the many historic towns, villages and markets, enjoying the local delicacies, wine and the French way of life whilst breathing pollution free air and driving on traffic free roads - heaven! |
