The property: Le Tilleul is situated in the small village of St Etienne des Oullières, only 40 minutes drive from Lyon, yet surrounded by the rolling hills and vineyards of the Beaujolais. It has views to the North of the chapel on Mount Brouilly, and to the south onto the garden, with its swimming pool, ancient tilleul (lime tree), and rose borders. Perfect for outdoor meals and relaxing in the sunshine. Children are very welcome at Le Tilleul, and the property is equipped with high chair, travel cot, and indoor toy box! There are inflatable's for the water and a range of outdoor toys and climbing frame. There is also a set of bikes for hire, (one with child seat), and baby sitting should you wish for an adults evening out. The property itself, with it's own private entrance amidst the honeysuckle, is attached to the owner's property and was built in the 1800s in the style typical of the Beaujolais region, with a staircase up to the living area. It is situated above the original wine barrel making area, and has retained the majority of it's original architectural features, including the arched doorways allowing horse and cart access, and exposed stone walls. Inside the property has recently been carefully and tastefully renovated to create a spacious, light and airy, modern family home. South facing, the sun streams through large windows for most of the day. The entrance leads into a very spacious, tiled, open plan living, dining and kitchen area. Kitchen – a new modern fitted kitchen, well equipped for cooking, eating and drinking the 12 Beaujolais wines of the region! There is a traditional cooker, microwave oven, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. There is the use of the washing machine in another building which forms part of the owners property. From the kitchen a door leads to the tiled larder with plenty of storage space for provisions. Lounge/dining area- The soft pastel colours of this spacious and sunny living area give it a fresh feel and make it a wonderful place to relax and look out onto the garden and pool. There are two sofas, dining table and chairs, a coffee area and television. Bedroom One – The master bedroom with a double bed has huge windows with views across the vines as far as Mount Brouilly. Bedroom Two – A perfect children’s room. The second bedroom looks onto the swimming pool and has two single beds. Shower Room – good sized shower room with WC, sink and shower. |

Outside Area: The private and protected sunny garden and gravel courtyard seem to benefit from their own micro climate. You will find a full set of garden furniture, barbecue for your eating al frescoe, and sun loungers for relaxing next to the pool. The private garden and pool are for the exclusive use of gîte visitors and the owners. (open 1st May – 30th September) For our low season visitors ( 1st October – 30th April ) a large games rooms (200m2) is available in another building which forms part of the owners property. Here visitors can enjoy a game of basket ball, badminton, soft tennis or football. There is also a set of bikes for hire, (one with child seat), and baby sitting should you wish for an adults evening out. |

Surrounding Area: St Etienne des Oullières, with its wine cellar and small village shops, is situated in the heart of the Beaujolais region. It is within easy reach of the Mount Brouilly offering panoramic views over the surrounding vineyards. Also close by are Beaujeu, the capital of the Beaujolais, and the medieval villages of Trevoux, Oingt and Perouges. For winter visitors, the ski slopes are just 2 hours drive. In the summer many of the surrounding villages offer Sunday 'brocantes', and all boast a 'caveau' for tasting the local wine. The area features a number of good restaurants ranging from the local ferme-auberges to the more refined gastronomic dining. For more cultural pursuits, the attractive city of Lyon, 40 minutes to the south, offers excellent museums, along with designer shops and smart restaurants. To the North is the pretty town of Maçon, and the historic centre of Cluny with its famous abbey, and equestrian centre. Activities For outdoor sports, the recreational lake of Les Sapins to the west, offers sailing, surfing and pedalos, and horse riding is available locally. |
