Outside Area: The kitchen opens onto a gravelled terrace and an adjoining sheltered patio with garden furniture and barbecue. Below the terrace is a sloping lawn where children can safely play and open countryside all around (flower meadows with a donkey and horses, then extensive woodland). The small lake lies some 150 metres away, in the valley, with 2 other pools. For further details, please read advert for the other gîte - 080810.

The Nearby Lake

Surrounding Area: The farmhouse stands at the end of a quiet country lane, with no sign of traffic except for buzzards and roe-deer. It is still within easy reach of the facilities of modern life: Gaillac, the nearest market town, is 3 miles away.

The countryside here is hugely varied and attractive in all seasons, with endless possible walks through the chalky uplands, rich in orchids in May/June, or the adjacent forest of Grésigne, worldwide reputed for its wildlife and flora.

Medieval hilltop villages, innumerable châteaux, churches and museums bear witness to the rich past of this ancient province of Languedoc, the land of troubadours, that enjoys a semi-mediterranean climate.

Among various possible excursions are: Cordes, the breathtaking medieval citadel, Albi and its brick cathedral, Toulouse, a most colourful and vibrant city, the dramatic gorges of the Aveyron...

The surrounding area is rich in opportunities for all kinds of activities such as tennis, golf, horse riding, fishing, cycling, canoeing, caving, climbing, wine tasting and gastronomy – all within easy reach. Also yoga, tai-chi, ceramics and so on.

Whether you come here with a view to purchasing a property or simply for a rural retreat where the sun shines,  what you will find at Cassanis is a small community of people, all on good neighbouring terms, in which you will fully integrate.
The owner Hervé, a now retired teacher of philosophy and French litterature, his daughter Pauline and their next neighbour Jean-Louis, a retired farmer with a good command of English, will readily help you out in all matters and, hopefully, make you soon feel at home.
Hervé can provide French tuition if need be, as well as assistance and advice to house hunters throughout the prospecting, buying and renovating procedure.
