Surrounding Area: About 2 kms outside of the village is a lake with all amenities (fishing in season, windsurfing and canoeing during the summer) there are walks around the lakes of differing duration. There is a bar/café/restaurant overlooking the lake, and here there is a grassed communal play/picnic area. There are other lakes to visit within 30 minutes drive should you wish, and lots of interesting villages, details of which are left in the house along with other sites to visit for both adults and children. Horse riding is nearby and you can also go for a horse drawn carriage ride around country lanes, what a peaceful way to spend an a lazy afternoon! About 15 minutes drive is Eguzon this offers a charming and peaceful landscape, with its calm lakes, lively rivers and transparent cool streams. There are numerous sites for leisure and sporting activities around the Lac d' Eguzon including swimming, sailing, waterskiing, water toboggans, canoeing, sail boarding, climbing, archery, mountain-biking, hiking, fishing, tennis, horse riding, etc. There are numerous restaurants and bars, providing great food and wine. The lake formed by the Eguzon Dam, with an area of approximately 77 acres (312 hectares) is the largest stretch of water in the region "Centre". It is also the deepest one being 65 metres at its greatest depth. When the lake was formed in 1926, several mills, a part of Chambon village and the bridge linking Chambon with Fougères were submerged. When the lake was emptied, the last time was in 1988, ghostly remains of houses could still be seen. The bridge in under 20 metres of water is still perfectly preserved If you enjoy walking, cycling, fishing and visiting mediaeval villages museums, art galleries and towns with interesting architecture, enjoy good food at a reasonable price then you will probably enjoy this green area of France. |
