The property:  ‘La Cagouille’ is a recently renovated Charentaise-style house. There are two small gîtes attached but the main house has its own private entrance .

On the ground floor is a large open plan space with a sitting area and dining area. From this area is a door leading to a separate large kitchen with all 'mod-cons' and off this is a spacious bathroom and W.C.

Upstairs ,on the mezzanine level is a bedroom (sleeping three) and big shower-room/WC. Further upstairs are three more double bedrooms, one with an integral shower-room/WC, and a shower-room with WC that can be shared by the other two bedrooms.

Outside Area: There is a fair sized garden to the front of the property which is for the sole use of the people living in the house. This comprises: flower beds, fruit trees (cherry, apple pear, plum and peach) comfortable parking for three cars and a terrace with dining furniture (garden), gas BBQ and small lawned area.

To the rear of the property (accessed by a private pathway at side of house) is a shared garden area of lawn, shrubs, pine tree and swimming pool (10m x 5m). Each of the other gîtes has its own private garden and outside dining area but shares the pool and lawn (mainly for access to pool).

Surrounding Area:  We are situated in a small hamlet (8 houses) between two other small villages. The nearest shop is 1km with the village of Chaniers 4 kms away. Chaniers boasts 2 bakers, butcher, PO, 2ATMs, pub, 2 good restaurants, 2 hairdressers, small Co-op and a flower shop. Saintes, a very ancient, market town, with an impressive amphitheatre and other roman remains, is 12 kms, and has fresh food markets 6 days a week (not Mondays) and a large 'foire' (street market) on the first Monday of every month. Cognac is 25 mins by car and La Rochelle is an hour away. Bordeaux and city life is a mere hour and fifteen minutes away!

There are several equestrian centres in the area, 3 good golf courses less than an hour away (the nearest 15 mins). Cinemas, galleries, conservatoire de musique (concerts held in either the magnificent Abbey aux Dames or the equally magnificent Cathedral St Pierre) are all in Saintes where shopping and dining are pleasurable experiences. Sea, river and reservoir fishing is also available. The area is ideal for walking and cycling.

We are only 30 mins from spectacular beaches, (for long, bracing walks) and the islands D'Oleron, D'Aix and Madame.
