Surrounding Area: Montplaisir is half way between Saintes and Cognac with a 15 minute drive to each of these large towns. The small mediaeval village of Saint Sauvant is 2 km away and provides all basic essentials as well as trout farm, horse riding centre, tennis courts, idyllic solar heated swimming and paddle pool in summer (wonderful aquatic centre 40 km away for winter swims). The Charente river is bordered by many delightful villages with restaurants and markets, fishing and canoeing. Charente Maritime is on the Atlantic coast of France and be accessed by low fare airline flights to the famous seaport of la Rochelle – 60 km away.  As well as being the sunniest region of France there is wonderful countryside, shopping, museums, galleries, chateaux, markets all within 15 minutes. The seaside resort of Royan is a 40 minutes drive.
