The property:  Vienne Holidays at La Charronniere, to be found down a small lane on the edge of the hamlet. Small but perfectly formed, Les Ecuries are one storey, stone-built, rendered, converted stables forming one side of the grassed courtyard of an old mule farm. Inside you will find beamed ceilings, tiled floors and "pierre apparente". The original stable openings are now windows and the front door which opens straight into the open-plan kitchen/living-room. The furnishing is simple with a double-bed and bedside tables with lamps, a sofa bed, table and chairs and a rug. There is a chest of drawers, a French TV, CD/Radio and a hairdryer is provided. The shower-room/loo has no window but has an extractor fan. The windows look out onto the courtyard where you will find a bench and parasol for al fresco dining. The laundry room/pool pump room is to be found on the end of Les Ecuries with an automatic washing machine, iron and ironing board, broom. mop and bucket and vacuum cleaner.

Outside Area: The first entrance to the property is the grassed gîte parking area. You enter the enclosed lawned courtyard via a little wooden gate and you will see benches and parasols for al fresco meals. The laundry room and Les Ecuries are to your right. Opposite, to your left, there are a couple of little stone sheds, an open covered hangar giving shade and shelter and La P'tite Boulangerie, the third gite on the property. At the other end of the courtyard there is another fence dividing the courtyard from the private drive. The large, enclosed, sunny swimming-pool is to be found behind Les Ecuries in a sunny garden with sun loungers and a gazebo. The private buildings comprise a large barn, a workshop, a 'remise' and the owner's farmhouse. Les Ecuries face west.

Surrounding Area: The local small town of Chaunay is just two miles away and has a Monday morning market, a little supermarket, two bakers, hotel/restaurant, doctor's surgery, pharmacy, hairdresser, flower shop and a 'brocante' (bric-a-brac shop). A larger market can be found in Lezay on Tuesday mornings about 15 minutes drive away. A large supermarket, Super U, in Sauze Vaussais is open throughout the day, even during lunch time, and there is an English cafe, The Lemon Tree, in Sauze with wonderful home-made cakes. Chaunay is on the RN10 between Poitiers and Angouleme and this gives swift access to all sorts of towns and their attractions. The countryside around La Charronniere is gently rolling with long views and you can glimpse buzzards, deer and hare from time to time. This is arable country with big fields of anything from rapeseed, wheat and maize to sunflowers depending on the time of year. Attractions include Futuroscope at Poitiers, La Vallee des Singes, L'Ile aux Serpents, Parc la Belle, Chateau d'Epanvilliers, Cognac, Angouleme, Limoges, Civray, La Rochelle, Ile de Rey, local vide grenier sales, brocantes, beautiful country drives - there are so many things to do and places to see that you will be spoilt for choice. You could even take a day-trip to Paris by TGV from Poitiers.
