Surrounding Area: The pretty village of La Chapelle Aubareil is ideally situated between the magnificent medieval town of Sarlat with its colourful street markets, shops, cinemas, theatre and numerous restaurants and Montignac on the river Vezere. Both Sarlat and Montignac have banks, post offices, supermarkets and a full range of shopping facilities. Throughout the year markets are held in both towns on Wednesday mornings with a larger market every Saturday morning in Sarlat. The cinema complex in Sarlat is one of the most active in South West France having an annual film festival and frequent pre-release films with many recent British and American films shown in the English language. The larger towns of Brive and Perigueux are both within a 40 minute drive providing extensive shopping facilities and cultural activities. All the major hypermarkets can be found here as well as individual shops and boutiques in the older narrow streets and squares of these towns. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, La Chapelle is close to numerous chateaux including Hautefort, Castelnaud and Les Millandes. The stunning villages of La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Domme are close as are countless historical sites including the world famous Lascaux caves. During the winter period the area is ideal for walking, cycling and mountain biking and local maps and guides are available on our bookshelves. The ski resorts of the Auvergne are just two hours away giving easy access to a days skiing when the snow forecast is good. We often do this! Finally, within the area are a number of excellent eating places many of which are listed in the Michelin red and green guides - both books are in the sitting room. |
