Surrounding Area: The village of Champagnac de Belair is very peaceful despite offering a range of amenities. It has two hotels with restaurants, general store/alimentation, boulangerie, post office, pharmacy, open-air swimming pool complex, tennis club, church & a small Sunday market. Champagnac is located 6 kms from the picturesque & historic tourist town of Brantôme, the ‘Venice of the Périgord’, in an area famed for its truffles, outstanding natural beauty and wonderful French architecture. The Perigord Vert has large tracts of pasture and woodland, perfect for walking, canoeing, fishing and cycling or just relaxing. The countryside along the River Dronne remains largely undisturbed. It is tranquil and beautiful. Here, you will find plenty of good restaurants providing a variety of local food and wine catering for all budgets. Other places of interest are Bourdeilles - with its Renaissance Chateau, Riberac - best known for its lively market, and the enchanting village of St-Jean-de-Cole. Also close by are the Grotte de Villars and the Chateau de Puyguilhem. Slightly further afield are the vineyards of Cognac and Bordeaux, and the Atlantic coast with its fantastic beaches are about a 2 hour drive. St Emilion, renowned for its wine tasting, is also a short distance away, as are the airports of Bergerac & Limoges which both offer low cost flights. Nearby Angoulême also provides TGV rail links to Paris/Lilles/UK. |
