Surrounding Area: Olonzac lies in the heart of wine country and there are several other villages that are only minutes away where one can visit wineries, castles and abbeys. The town of Olonzac is ½ hour drive from the fantastic Mediterranean beaches in Narbonne. Although Olonzac is a rustic traditional French village it offers visitors a full range of modern conveniences such as a supermarket, several bakeries, butchers, post office, bank, church, pharmacy, cafés, bars and a number of excellent restaurants. The town also hosts a fabulous French market every Tuesday (Tuesday and Fridays during the summer) where fresh produce, cheeses, wines, cooked foods can be purchased etc.
Carcassonne is also only ½ hour drive and the old walled city of Carcassonne is well worth visiting. The beautiful Canal du Midi is only minutes away in the town of Homps. There are many scenic walks along the canal as well as cafés and restaurants. You can also take boat trips along this famous canal, which runs from the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. Also close by is a beautiful lake, which provides great swimming, boating, and windsurfing with lifeguards on duty. The Haut Languedoc National Park, which is the second largest French National Park is also close by. Minervois offers a terrific array of activities for all ages and tastes from wine tasting, fine dining, golf, hiking and biking etc. Daytrips can also be taken to Toulouse (1 ½ hours) Barcelona (2 ½ hours), Andorra (2 ½ hours), Pyrénées mountains (1 hour) and Bordeaux (3 ½ hours).
