Surrounding Area: Collioure is a busy and bustling coastal town, world famous as the birthplace of Fauvism. Matisse, Derain and many other internationally famous painters lived and worked in the town. Collioure has retained it's magical qualities due to sensitive planning restrictions and good management. There are no high rise appartment blocks or hotels. The town centre with it's historic church/bell tower and château, is largely pedestrianised giving an agreeable ambiance. |
