Surrounding Area: Lot et Garonne is a department of the region of Aquitaine in Southwest France, just south of the Dordogne. The Lot valley is one of the most fertile areas in France with vineyards, farms and orchards. The landscape varies from rolling hills to the fertile valley floors. Running through the valleys are rivers bordered by picturesque Bastide towns, many worth visiting. Those interested in the local food and wine will not be disappointed. There are a number of local farms, which run organised tours and tastings including honey, fruit, nut and goat farms. If the farm is not for you there are numerous markets to stroll around, almost one for every day of the week in peak season. Five minutes drive away is the village of Casseneuil, which has a bar/tabac, mini market, pharmacist and boulangerie. In the opposite direction, again 5 minutes away, is Villeneuve-sur-Lot, which has a large choice of shops and restaurants, two huge supermarkets on the outskirts and a busy market in the central square on Saturday mornings and others during the week. Our local vineyard is only 5 minutes away with a multi language signposted tour of the vineyard explaining what happens to the vines through the seasons. Pujols is a lovely hilltop bastide town near Villeneuve with excellent restaurants, craft shops and an art gallery and not to mention the ice cream parlour. Penne d'Agenais is another hillside town with restaurants and views overlooking the river valley with a number of art galleries and local craft shops. Henry IV's chateau and its extensive parks open to the public, are in Nerac on the River Baise. The perfect place for a picnic whilst watching the riverboats cruise by. Within a 30 minute drive of the apartments is the huge feudal Chateau de Bonaguil which is well worth seeing and open on certain days during the winter period. Closer to home, places to eat include La Scource at Ste Livrade, 15 minutes away and Le Commanderie at Temple sur Lot, again 15 minutes away. The Villeneuve Golf Club has a good restaurant with special offers on meals with a round of golf. Villeneuve-sur-Lot has many places to eat including Chinese, Vietnamese, Italian and Indian restaurants with many street cafes. Villeneuve sur Lot and the surrounding towns have a multitude of Estate Agents, several of which speak multiple languages including English. There are links to three Estate Agents on our website. |
