The property: The house (we call it a cottage) is over 300 years old in a small hamlet of twelve dwellings 4 km from the small town of COUHE and about 6 km from the market town of LEZAY. The historic city of POITIERS is 35 km to the north via the N10 and to west is another lovely city, NIORT, both excellent shopping centres.
The POITOU-CHARENTES region is full of gorgeous villages and towns stacked with places of interest too many to list.
Our COTTAGE has a fully tiled ground floor with a KITCHEN/DINER, BATHROOM/SHOWER, and LOUNGE. The KITCHEN is fully fitted with an electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, toaster, kettle, pots and pans, cutlery and crockery etc. The BATHROOM has a bath, separate shower, toilet and wash basin. The LOUNGE has a three-piece suite, coffee tables and a desk unit, Satellite TV with a video, the Satellite has BBC, ITV and Radio. The French doors lead out to the patio, that has a table set and gets the sunshine just in time for breakfast or that early morning coffee.
The UPSTAIRS has a very large double bedroom with a toilet and hand basin. The bed is supplied with a summer and winter duvet and pillows and the floor is carpeted. There is also a MEZZANINE BEDROOM that has two single beds. The cottage has full central heating with radiators in all rooms.

Outside Area:  The cottage has its own enclosed garden with a well, that makes it quite quaint.
We also have a pool area that is shared with us. The pool is a five metre plunge pool in the barn area, which is an all day sun trap. There are sunloungers and barbecues set in a lawned area for your use. You have a parking space by the side of the cottage, and or the use of the covered barn to park if you wish.

Surrounding Area: ‘La Chaussee’ is situated in the heart of the Deux Sevres  countryside surrounded by open fields of sunflowers and maize, our former farmhouse is part of the small hamlet of ‘La Chaussee’. Our nearest village, Rom, is three minutes drive or ten minutes by bicycle to boulangerie for fresh bread/crossants and our nearest town, Couhe, for supermarkets and shops and restaurants, is only five minutes away.
There are many local markets and shops in the area and other amenities including tennis, golf, horse riding and fishing.We are conveniently situated for exploring the many interesting places in the region including the cinematic theme park ‘Futurascope’ and Vallee des Singes’ monkey park. Melle is also only just a stones throw away where you can take in three romanesque churches or perhaps wander the market.
To the south is the famous old town of Cognac where you can visit the brandy houses. To the west is La Rochelle with its beaches, old port and seafood restaurants.
