Description of Property:
Located in a quiet residential street just off the town centre, many crowned heads, statesmen, scientists and artists like Picasso must have walked or driven past the house on their way up to 'our' cave. The charming accommodation is full of character and feels very homely. The kitchen window overlooks the street and you can listen to the neighbors chatting in the street. People say hello to each other here and in the bakery you will soon be known as one of the regular croissants and patisserie addicts. But you can also just relax at home and enjoy the balcony of the rear bedroom overlooking the lovely and quiet garden. Dating back more than 250 years, the carefully renovated apartment offers modern amenities while preserving the old charm with massive oak beams, a big 2m chimney and the traditional stone floor on the ground floor.
Separate entrance at street level through a former horse stable with storage space, shared laundry area and access to the garden.
First floor: a fully equipped kitchenette and dining area, spacious bathroom with tub and shower and Green Room with twin beds and balcony with views onto the garden.
Second floor: the large master bedroom in the loft offers high ceilings with exposed oak beams and lots of light (TV: Sky box). Equipped with a double bed, double sofa-bed and single bed.
Outside Amenities: Access to the shared garden through the former horse stable: one half of the garden is reserved for our guests and equipped with BBQ, table and chairs, hammock, sun loungers and a blackboard for children. The entirely closed garden with a stonewall is beautifully planted (palm tree, a huge banana shrub, a newly planted box hedge and fig shrub, an apple and a cherry tree) and is the perfect place to relax in the sun in the company of our tortoise Sandro and our cat Tachy. There is plenty of furniture to settle in the corner of your choice: in the shady area under the balcony under the palm tree with a climbing kiwi and the tub with water lilies and goldfish, the hammock next to the hydrangea, the sun loungers under the banana shrub (which flowers most years). The garden is bursting with flowers, medical and culinary herbs.
Surrounding Area: Whilst a visit to the nearby prehistoric caves at Lascaux are essential as well as a drive to see the magnificent medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, the surrounding countryside never fails to delight with delightful hamlets and stunning chateaux. Our apartment is the perfect location to visit the many sites of the Dordogne. Beynac, Domme, Les Eyzies and Hautefort are just a short drive away. A lifetime would not be enough to see everything the Dordogne has to offer: prehistory (the Lascaux cave is just up the hill), medieval history and architecture with castles, abbeys, Knights Templar's settlements and stops on St. Jacob's Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella in north west Spain. Flora and fauna abound, fantastic food can be found almost everywhere, as can wonderful products on the markets. Apart from being just round the corner from the tourist office, we have an extensive library about prehistory and the area in several languages for your perusal. We will be happy to discuss your plans to make sure that you get the most out of your time here. We also propose several trips in the area, you can take the information with you in the car. A great way to explore the country side is by bike (bike hire in Montignac). Or enjoy a day with your children on the river: you can hire canoes in Montignac and we also offer picnic equipment (cold box, plates and cutlery, blanket). Tell us about your interests and we will help you with advice and tips about interesting places off the beaten tracks. For swimming there is the local swimming pool, a wonderful natural lake with sandy beach and supervised swimming 20 minutes away, or, one of our tips, a wonderful little stream in beautiful nature.
