Description of Property:
The cottage is part of our 'longère' - a farmhouse-style house divided into three. Our home is on one side of the cottage, and a barn is on the other. Check out the calendar (see the icon above) for availability. When you check out prices, you will see monthly rates can be surprisingly good, and includes all utility bills and local tourist taxes - there is nothing else to pay!
Completely re-built (with wall and roof insulation to UK standards) by expert craftsman, this 2-bed cottage provides a home-from-home all the year round.
A CHARACTER COTTAGE
The cottage features original features retained by the master-builder. There is a Charentais fireplace, a Charentais window, and an original sink used by the farmhands dating from 1891. Heating, when you need it, is by an antique Godin wood-burner, probably dating from the 1920’s. We provide the wood for you, and help you to light it if you are a novice. (There are also electric heaters for an extra boost overnight).
The open-plan ground floor has a kitchen area, dining area and lounge area.
A beautiful 18th century oak staircase sweeps grandly (and gently) from the ground floor to the two carpeted double bedrooms upstairs.
Each bedroom has its own en-suite shower room. The first bedroom has a 5' double bed, the second bedroom has two 3' single beds (not side-by-side). Towels, cotton blankets, a wide selection of pillows, duvets and linen are all provided. Each bed is furnished with a layer of memory foam and a 'pillow top'. A feather topper completes this trio to provide the most comfy night's sleep. A hair dryer is provided. UK/European adaptor plugs are also provided.
THE KITCHEN AREA
The kitchen area has a gas oven, a dish-washer (ample crockery and cutlery will help you to fill it, a washing machine (new 2020), microwave and tall Miele fridge/freezer. A great selection of small appliances are here too, a liquidiser, small food processor, cafetière, baking tins etc. T-towels provided.
For weekly guests I provide a selection of washing products, sauces, spices and many small items so that you won’t need to make unnecessary purchases. If there are any other items you need, you can simply use ours! We are right next door.
WI_FI The superb wi-fi in the gîte will enable you to keep in touch with your Skype and email, and there is a good mobile phone signal here too.
TV & SKY
The TV has a UK Sky Freeview card so you can giggle at the UK weather report, and keep up with your favourite programmes. You can bring your own Sky viewing card.
MOBILE PHONE SIGNAL
The mobile phone signal here is super-strong.
Outside Amenities: PARKING
There is ample parking space on our shared pebbled area in front of the longère for three or four cars, and there is more parking space in the garden.
A table and chairs is waiting out on the pavement patio in front of the gîte for your sole use.
A large pebbled area to the rear of the gîte provides another patio set for you to relax and enjoy the view of the large garden with mature trees, and the countryside beyond.
A gas barbecue can be provided and a choice of two outside terraces so that you can follow, or avoid, the sun. Sunshades are provided too.

Just 15 minute's walk away is the small village of Benest with a Post Office. The village of Alloue is 6km away, with a bar/restaurant serving set lunches. You can also buy bread here, and tobacco.
A ten-minute country walk also takes you down to the river Charente.
Champagne Mouton is about 30 minutes drive away, with a 24-hour cash point, petrol garages and a really nice Carrefour mini-supermarket. There is a farmer's market here twice weekly. There is a lovely cattery here too, and our garage where we have all the maintenance & repairs done to our car.
Confolens, just 20 minutes by car, is a beautiful town on the river Vienne. It is great to explore. This town offers a twice weekly market, a large supermarket with petrol and a variety of other shops. In August there is a week-long International Dance Festival here with many concerts and parades through the town. An agenda is available so that you can plan ahead to enjoy some of the events taking place during the whole week. There is an outdoor swimming pool here. Visit our chateaux - Verteuil, Rochefoucauld, and many others in this area.
Ruffec, 35-minutes drive away, is another large town offering some out-of town shops as well as a number of large supermarkets. On the A10, it is the gateway to adventures further afield, like the Valley of the Monkeys, Puy Du Fou, and Futurescope. See our website for many more days out.

Pricing Info: Prices are inclusive of utilities AND Tourism tax. Weekly rents, £420-£600 per week. Monthly rents - £800. Local tourism tax, wood and utilities are ALL INCLUDED all the year round. Long-term lets (more than 3 months) must pay a set-up charge for diagnostics (about £280), and their own Tax d'habitation and Tax Foncier - where applicable. Please ask for 'odd dates' - we can be flexible. A monthly contract ends on 28th of the last month for 2-3 cleaning days. 3 days cleaning are always required at the end of a stay of three months or more. Monthly rents are for consecutive calendar months, all except for the final month, which ends on the 28th day. The refundable security deposit of £200 (for breakages) in addition to the rent, is payable at least 60 days (2 months) in advance of the date of arrival. Cancellation policy: 100% full refund if cancellation before 60 days.
