Surrounding Area: The Quercy Blanc lies at the southern edge of the Lot departement, and is so named for its many villages and old properties, chateaux and Romanesque churches built of brilliant white limestone. It comprises glorious rolling countryside with cultivated arable land in the valleys and wooded hillsides. The fascinating old town of Cahors sits 25 km away on the river Lot with its ancient bridge 'Pont Valentré'. The meandering river is lined with many vineyards producing the famous 'black wine' of the area, including one owned by the Queen of Denmark. Anyone can taste the wine there, admire the gardens and even visit her summer palace if she is not in residence. There are weekly markets in most villages including Castelnau, and fetes and festivals are frequent most of the year. Walking is a popular pastime and there is fishing and canoeing on the river, swimming in the many lakes and outdoor swimming pools. The village of Castelnau has its own swimming pool and all necessary facilities including bakers, butcher, banks, chemist, Doctors, dentists etc. It is one and a half hours from Toulouse airport and 25 minutes from the nearest railway station.
