Description of Property:
Once two townhouses, this 16th Century maison de ville has been classically refurbished while retaining the French traditional features like stone coving, wooden ceiling beams and the original terracotta floor tiles. Spacious is the word that best describes this large three-story house with plenty of comfortable living space on each of the two floors above the ground floor entrance and rez-de-chaussee with toilet and shower. The first floor consists of a compact kitchen, dining room and living room with WiFi and satellite TV with movies, A/C, and portable fans for warm weather . Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, a mezzanine area and a lobby area perfect for working on a laptop, separate WC and bath/shower rooms and an automatic washing machine. Just imagine dining al fresco on the terrace with panoramic views!
Because of the many stairs and balconies, this house is not suitable for children from 6 months to 5 years of age. On the ground floor, adjacent to the shower room, is a bedsitter with kitchenette and TV that might suit an elderly family member or a teenager. It can be rented separately in addition to the house itself.
Outside Amenities: To the rear of this town house each of the two bedrooms has a balcony, one of them large enough to sit out and relax. The main outdoor space is on the roof terrace which has a large, new gas barbeque, two lounge chairs and a table-for-six and chairs. From the terrace one can enjoy views of tiled rooftops and the surrounding hills beyond.
Surrounding Area: "16bis" is in a perfect location to explore this delightfully shady, yet bustling town. Begin with the bakery that opens at 7am and is 30 seconds away from our door. From the Easter Procession to the Cherry Festival in June, there is always plenty to see and do in Ceret itself. You will certainly enjoy the fountains, cafe terraces, the Museum of Modern Art, public swimming pool, bullring which doubles as a sardane dancing venue, sports grounds and the busy year-round Saturday market. On summer Tuesday evenings there is an artisan market in the town centre. Ceret is a quiet town and Rue de Vieux Ceret is too narrow for cars, so 16bis is very peaceful.
Ceret is a convenient distance from nearby towns further west up the Tech River valley or east all the way (40 minutes) to the historical city of Perpignan. There is an excellent bus service in both directions and the fare is €1, or buy a weekly ticket for €8. You don't need a car to explore the area or to get to Ceret from airports in Perpignan, Carcassone or even Barcelona and Girona, Spain. There is a daily bus that drives through villages and down to Argeles-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean Sea. With a car one can explore the villages in the Pyrenees and perhaps in 20 minutes cross the border into Spain.
