Description of Property:
The larger wing of the Mill provides a comfortable and self-contained 4-bedroom gite. This is entirely private and contains 4 double bedrooms, a large salon / dining room, bathroom, WC and kitchen. It is light and airy with lots of large windows that open completely, letting in the sound of the river, the wind in the trees and the singing of birds.
The gite has been designed to be characterful and elegant but also clean, simple and modern. So there are good facilities including dishwasher and washing machine, a marble floored bathroom with modern shower and bath, a large salon with polished stone floor and wood burner and four bedrooms with inspiring views across the gardens. In the gardens we have an NZ style deck onto the river and mill stream, a terrace with a covered dining area looking out over our small lake. Beyond our terrace we have another field which is a small island with the local river going around the far side of it. In front of the buildings we have a number of large fields, long drive and an area of woods. Nature is a very dominant force here with many old trees, lots of birds and wildlife, fish in the lake; it is not uncommon to hear Owls at night and see Buzzards, Kites and Kestrels, Woodpeckers and even a shy and fast Kingfisher. It is a kind of heaven.
Outside Amenities: Outside our grounds are numerous peaceful walks in the woods and beyond, visits to Michel de Montaigne's Chateau and markets in Castillon on Monday, in Libourne on Friday and in St Foy La Grande on Saturday. There are numerous supermarkets and boulangeries in Castillon and Montcaret.
Surrounding Area: Our home is not far from St Emilion and some of the worlds's finest vineyards. There are numerous Churches and Abbeys to see. We are close to Bordeaux which is a truly great City to see and has a good airport and the same distance from Bergerac which is also lovely and has an airport too. You can get trains at Castillon to go to Libourne / Bordeaux and Paris or out to the depths of the Dordogne to Bergerac, towards Sarlat. This really is a tranquil but also well connected place to be.
