Description of Property: La Combe dates from Napoleonic times but was for most of the 20th century in ruins. Lovingly restored by an English/Irish couple it is now a comfortable and attractive house on two floors set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings. A spacious ground floor holds a large lounge, dining room, kitchen and double bedroom. The first floor leading off the dining room offers a large master bedroom and en suite bathroom, complete with double sink and bath. Enjoy gorgeous views across the Auvergnian landscape from the comfortable king-sized bed! A roomy and airy mezzanine level leads up from the lounge and houses a relaxing area around a wood-burning stove and a secluded office area. The two bedrooms sleep four and the sofabed on the mezzanine can accommodate another two. The downstairs lounge is arranged around an impressive open fireplace and there is a comfortable bathroom on each floor.
Outside Amenities: The rear garden offers privacy for sunbathing and the front terrace is positioned over beautiful views of the Larras valley - perfect for drinks, lazy lunches and candlelit dinners. There is a chaufferie/shed attached to the house and equipped with outside tables, chairs and loungers and a washing machine and dryer. There is ample parking beside the house, which is reached by a short lane lined with walnut and lilac trees.
Surrounding Area: La Combe is situated deep in lovely countryside but is also just a short drive or bike ride away from the nearby village of Bellenaves, which has excellent amenities including a Wednesday market, a well-equipped small supermarket, two bakeries, a butchers, a pharmacy, a hairdressers, bar, restaurant and doctors' surgery. For larger supermarkets the towns of Gannat, St Pourcain and St Eloy are each around a 20-25 minutes drive. There are many interesting chateaux in the area and the fascinating cities of Vichy, Clermont Ferrand and Moulins-Paris offer shopping, dinining, museums, culture and sporting facilities. The country roads and lanes around La Combe are perfect for cycling, running, walking and horse-riding. The lovely Monts de la Madeleine, which can be seen from the house, and the Chaine des Puys offer a range of walking, cycling and other activities just 50 minutes drive away. Throughout the spring, summer and autumn brocantes and fetes are held in the surrounding villages meaning there is always something fascinating to do. Lakes and forests are plentiful - the lovely Foret des Colettes is close to the house offering peaceful walks in nature. The nearby small hill town of Charroux is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France and offers a variety of great places to eat and drink. You will never be short of things to do!
