Surrounding Area:  Carcassonne has all the amenities of a mid-sized city - an airport, a bus station, and a mainline train station that connects to major cities throughout Europe as well as closer destinations such as the Mediterranean beaches and towns throughout Southern France and Spain. Supermarkets are easily accessible, but you will also find the typical bakery, cafes, and local shops within walking distance of the house.

It’s a 5 min bike ride or 20 min walk across the Canal du Midi to the centre of town where you'll find bustling cafes, restaurants, and a lively farmer’s market three days a week. From Place Carnot, the town square in the Bastide wind your way to river and cross the ancient bridge to reach the Unesco World heritage site, known locally as La Cité.
The fortified city is well situated between rolling foothills of the Pyrenees with fields of sunflowers to the west, the drier Mediterranean Corbieres hills with limestone escarpement and olive groves are to the south east, the beech woods or the Black mountains are to the north and sandy beaches grace the east.

The Languedoc region is known for its natural beauty, historical landmarks and has a rich history of artisanal craftsmanship going back to the Medieval times. Today there are many thriving artistic communities that continue to attract artists, writers, and other creatives from all around the world. The surrounding landscape is a picturesque mix of Medieval villages, untouched hinterlands, and rolling vineyards where vignerons have been cultivating the land for generations. The region has some of the best preserved nature in all of France, perfect for birdwatching, hiking and other activities for absorbing yourself in nature.
