You know you are in a French village when the resonant sounds of the nearby Abbey bells join in concert as they call the Sisters to prayer.

Surrounding Area:  The village of Chantelle is the site of a large 15th Century fortress overlooking the river Bouble and the gorge it has forged over the millennia. What remains of the fortress is a large enclosed castle, the Abbey of St Vincent.
On the opposite side of the village, the countryside meanders toward the beautiful village of Charroux about 10 km through quiet country roads.
The village of 1000 people is about 250 metres above sea level in the vicinity of the Puy de Dome. The weather is generally temperate.
Chantelle has a bank, post office, garage, restaurant, Arthouse, Medical Centre, hairdresser, and optician as well as two grocery stores, boulangerie and butcher. A recent innovation in the village is the Association of Hotel de La Poste which is an organization of locals who provide refreshments and entertainment with details at the Facebook page Baba Yaga Hotel de la poste.
During hot summer days the gorge and the river Bouble provide a cool respite. There is also a nearby lake for picnicking, swimming, and fishing.
