One large bedroom reached by a narrow stairway. Shower room with shower and sink and separate wc. Basic kitchen ‘au coin’ with small two ring electric cooker and fridge freezer. Fully equipped with all cooking utensils, etc. Detached utility room with automatic washing machine (shared with other gite). Le Fournil is electrically heated by individually controlled radiators. There is constant hot water.

Outside Amenities:  There is a pleasant garden area to the front and a larger patio area to one side. Le Fournil has access to a tennis court and large swimming pool with alarm within a few paces. The whole estate is set in 9 hectares (22.5 acres) of parkland, pasture and woods. There are trees of many different varieties as well as fruit trees. The area above La Grange (the barn) is the original barn and offers vast, dry storage accessed from enormous double doors. This is ideal for furniture and effects and ensures easy access. There are two full size loose boxes and a separate tack room for horse owners. These are rented separately. DIY Stabled or Grass Livery can be arranged and hay can be bought from the local farmer.

Surrounding Area:  The lively village of Catus is just 3kms away. All necessary day to day shopping is possible here and there is are two bars and an excellent restaurant. Within a short distance are some of the most celebrated restaurants of the local region. Shops in Catus include a post office, a pharmacy, a wine shop, a supermarket/petrol station (open 7 days a week) a butcher, a baker, a newsagent/bar (with English newspapers), a further bar/bistro, a restaurant, a gift shop and a hairdresser. There is a veterinary surgery, a garage and a farm shop. To the far side of Catus is Lac Vert into which the River Vert flows. There is good fishing all along the Vert and the lake has many leisure activities besides fishing. In the summer season there is swimming, boating and pedalos, tennis, table tennis, volley ball, basket ball and there is a keen local football team in the winter months. In summer, the Catus Cricket Team has their ground at Lac Vert. Two bars and restaurants at the lake are open during the summer months. There is a riding stables nearby.

This is the heart of the Cahors wine region and there are countless local châteaux, the more famous being Mercues and La Grezette, both of which are around ten minutes away. The area abounds with caves, some of which feature prehistoric remains and paintings. Cahors itself is a very old town with much medieval architecture remaining. The Valentre Bridge is the oldest in Europe and has a very romantic history. Begot was the area chosen for a British barracks in the 100 years war and ‘Le Fournil’ was part of a farm established to supply the troops. In nearby Catus there is a tower built by the French to watch for attacks by the British troops.

Market day in Catus is a Tuesday but there are markets all around the local area. There is an excellent brocante in St Denis Catus for bargain hunters and a monthly antiques fair in nearby Mercues.

The A20 motorway runs nearby and continues to Montauban and on to Toulouse. The journey to Toulouse Airport is just over the hour. Toulouse is served by British Airways as well as Easyjet, FlyBe and BMIBaby. Bergerac Airport is also served by RyanAir and FlyBe and is about a one hour drive. Rodez and Limoges Airports are a two hour drive. The new Brive Airport is served by CityJet who fly between Brive and London City and RyanAir from East Midlands. Brive is around 30 minutes away. Cahors is on the main railway line between Paris and Toulouse. The main rail line will be upgraded to TGV next year.
