Solidly built 38 years ago for the mayor of St Clementin, La Chouette is all on one level, immaculate and well appointed. Recently restored to a high standard, we have purchased quality antiques or new furnishings, framed art and prepared the home for easy, comfortable living. Surrounding Area: St Clementin is 1 mile from a small market, 3 miles from a supermarket, bank, and pharmacies, and 8 miles from all services such as hospital, banks and train service. The area is unique in that the rolling countryside is hedgerowed, enclosing small farms, interspersed by small forests, crisscrossed by rivers and liberally sprinkled with chateaux. Farmers markets can be found in one village or another most days.
Walking and cycling are popular here on the small roads and paths. A recently completed conversion of an unused railway line has given us a 50 km virtually flat, car-free path that takes us through the quiet countryside from village to village once served by the regional train.
There is a lake for canoeing at 3 miles with lots of hiking trails, a swimming complex at 3 miles, equestrian center at 4 miles and gardens to visit without number.
The Loire chateaux are nearby, beginning at 30 minutes north, the Atlantic beaches are one hour west.
Not to be missed are: Le Puy du Fou, a history themed park at 45 minutes west, look this up on the internet. It has the third largest Roman stadium in the world where they have chariot races, gladiators, lions and tigers, exotic beasts and a huge cast of costumed actors. The park, in a large forest, has recreations of 16-19th century villages with demonstrations of daily life of the time and too many things to do and see in one day. The largest Japanese gardens in Europe are 20 minutes west, a large lake in a valley is surrounded by a garden created in the mid 1800's.
Bressuire, our main market town at 12km has a 19th century chateau on the grounds of a 11th century chateau where there are numerous art exhibitions throughout the year. The International Highland Games are held every other year at the chateau, one of the top five sites in the world for the Games.
